Alvin Smidstra Inducted into Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame

Alvin Smidstra of Lyon County was inducted into the 2022 Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame at the Iowa State Fair Sunday, August 21st.

98 Iowa Counties participated this year and selected 133 inductees for their outstanding service and dedication to 4-H.

Smidstra began his interest in 4-H when his son started his 4-H journey.

Many inductees have served a variety of executive positions in the 4-H program.  Some of his accomplishments include becoming a 4-H leader for 6 years in the 1990’s, serving on the 4-H youth committee for 6 years, becoming the dairy superintendent in 1991 and joining the 4-H fair board in 1999. Smidstra also introduced a new state-of-the-art show ring for Lyon County.

The Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame was initiated in 2002 to help commemorate the 100th anniversary of 4-H.
